Lace mat for sugar paste
Silicone lace-patterned mat for texturing sugar paste and creating borders or ribbons with crisp relief.
How a lace mat works
A silicone lace mat reproduces a raised pattern (flowers, arabesques, guipure) when a thin layer of sugar paste or edible lace paste is spread over it. Once dry, the pattern is removed from the mat and placed on the cake or wrapped around a tier.
Choosing a pattern according to its use
Regular geometric patterns are suitable for continuous borders on a layer cake; more organic floral patterns work well for isolated appliqués or tiered cakes. The mat can be cleaned with warm water and reused for multiple pieces.
Frequently asked questions
Classic sugar paste or specialized lace paste?
Edible lace paste, which is more elastic once dry, reproduces fine patterns better and withstands handling without breaking; classic sugar paste is suitable for larger reliefs.
How long should the lace dry before unmolding?
A few minutes at room temperature are generally sufficient for a fine pattern; drying it for too long makes unmolding more difficult.
Is the mat reusable?
Yes, a silicone mat can be cleaned with warm water without harsh detergent and retains its relief over many uses.
